Neuropathic pain following traumatic injury

Traumatic head and neck injuries are a leading cause of chronic neuropathic pain. These injuries affect overlapping regions of the nervous system, from peripheral nerves and dorsal root ganglia through to the spinal cord and brain.

I study how injury to the nervous system across this spectrum leads to neuropathic pain, and why outcomes vary so widely between patients. Using a deep phenotyping approach including MRI, quantitative sensory testing, neurological assessment, and blood-based measures, I aim to characterize and identify the factors that drive pain chronification.
